Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What are my credentials?

Ph.D., and Licensed Psychologist (LP)

What are your rates?

See here for my rates.

Do you take insurance?

No. See my reason here.

Where are you located?

You can find that on my contact page.

Do you see patients in-person or telehealth?

Both! And there is flexibility for in-person, too, if you want an experience that is out of the office.

Therapy Questions

Is therapy just talking?

It can be. But that really depends on your needs. Sometimes talking only reinforces the narratives we have and it takes some action to break those down.

Do you work with [insert] diagnosis?

For the most part, I adopt a diagnosis-agnostic perspective, although I still operate using a diagnostic lens when it is necessary. Sometimes diagnoses help with forming a new narrative. Sometimes they reinforce unhelpful ones. I have experience working with: Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Depression, Bipolar I and II, Body Dysmoprhia, Eating Disorders, Substance Use disorders, ADHD, PTSD (single-event and complex), OCD, and other avoidant-related needs.

Do you work with queer and, more specifically, trans people?

Yes to both! In my pediatric practice especially I was often working with trans teens navigating their identity development and medical experiences.

Why does nothing that I do feel like it matters?

Classic sign of depression and guess what? Depression isn’t always a bad thing! Often, it is actually your mind and body telling you to reset and prioritize your life. Depression can be a good thing! Let’s work through it.

How in the world do I make friends?!

People are reporting increasing amounts of psychological, social, and emotional isolation. It is mostly a problem of Western individualized cultures. Let’s work to help you feel more connected.

I feel like my child manipulates me. How do I get them to just respect me?

All behavior seeks to communicate needs. Both children and adults have needs, but adults have experience to tell them what works. Children are experimenting. So what we experience as “manipulation” which implies some sort of malicious intent, is usually a combination of children trying to get their needs met, and them exploring different methods.

Consulting Questions

What exactly do you do for consultation?

I adopt a constructivist approach, which means that while I have topics and content expertise I am knowledgeable about, I am pretty clueless to your specific needs. We need to work together. I do employ Implementation Science, though, that tells us there ARE effective ways to do things and I would encourage us to use those methods and tools.

What is your rate?

It depends on the service. I have a number of different models I use and price points, and from there we can negotiate based on what exactly you need.

Are you available to just do a keynote?

As long as I feel like it is a topic I can speak to, yes, I am happy to be a keynote to your conference or event or whatever it might be.
