Forensic and legal consultation differs from treatment. The purpose of this work is not ongoing therapy, but to provide psychologically informed perspective in relation to a legal or evaluative question. In some cases, role limitations, conflicts, or scope considerations may mean that consultation is appropriate while treatment or formal evaluation is not, or vice versa.
Whether a matter is a fit depends on timing, referral question, available records, jurisdictional considerations, and the nature of the requested role.
Forensic inquiries begin with a preliminary conversation about the referral question, timeline, current legal context, and the type of service being requested. Depending on the matter, this may be followed by review of records, clarification of scope, and discussion of fees, availability, and next steps.
Acceptance of a case is not automatic and depends on fit, role clarity, and capacity.
Fees for forensic and legal consultation differ from standard clinical services and are discussed during the initial inquiry process.
